How to read this comparison

Each point is a returned outdoor community sensor within the SF study box (37.69–37.83° N, 122.54–122.35° W), with a ground-elevation lookup. The box approximates the city; it is not a neighborhood boundary.

Elevation comes from the USGS-derived NED10m terrain dataset. It is ground elevation, not the sensor’s mounting height. Missing elevation readings are omitted, never treated as zero.

PM₂.₅ units are µg/m³—not official AQI. The current sample is relayed by the EPA/USFS Fire and Smoke Map and applies its correction. Its nearby sample is incomplete and does not include device temperature or humidity. A PurpleAir API key unlocks those additional fields.

Pearson r describes this returned sample only. Correlation cannot establish elevation as a cause, identify a fire source, or confirm a temperature inversion. No returned fire incidents does not establish that no fire exists.
